ok, so something new i plan to do with each post is put a letter in the front of the title to give you an idea of what the post is mainly going to be about.

before i just start to dive into the oils and share my favorite ones and top uses, i'm gonna tell you my story and how i got to where i am now.
when makena was transitioning from her crib to a toddler bed, it was kind of a disaster. she just decided one day that she was terrified of the crib and screamed bloody murder until she figured out how to bail out of there. she was only 20 months old so getting her to understand the idea of staying in a cage-free bed was extremely difficult. we finally got her to stay put but she would lay there for HOURS before she would fall asleep. one of my very best friends suzie asked me if i had ever tried lavender essential oils to help her relax and fall asleep. no, i hadn't, but i was willing to try (almost) anything. after doing only a little research on young living and lavender oil i decided to give it a try. i put a drop under her pillow every now and then. i noticed it helped a little but it wasn't like instant magic that i've realized most people expect from these oils. she eventually got the hang of her new bed and the oil went up on the shelf.
fast forward to elias' arrival. well, that kid is a terrible sleeper. that's all there is to it. i busted out the oil and did the same thing as i did with makena. the thing is, i never had the proper education when it came to HOW to use the oils. i think that is one of the main reasons i didn't dive in head first after buying the lavender. education is SO important. more on that later....
anyways, a few months later suzie mentioned a new oil she had gotten from yl called peace and calming. since we both struggle with anxiety she wanted to share with me how helpful it had been for her. i was quick to give this a try, since i'm on medication for my anxiety and would rather not be if i don't have to. she ordered it for me as an early christmas present and the first time i used it i was sold. i went through the bottle probably WAY faster than i needed to. i knew i didn't have the money right away to buy a premium starter kit but i knew i wanted it, asap.
i found a distributor in my area through a temecula moms facebook group and ordered my kit. i'm super lucky to have an enroller (and now friend) who invests in her members and does everything she can to provide as much knowledge and education on the product as possible. she's someone that i can turn to with any questions. i have learned this as a business model and i strive to do the same thing. if i don't know the answer to a question, i find it.
anyways, back to why i picked young living above any other company. obviously its very important for me to know what i'm putting on or in mine and my family's bodies. one thing i learned was that all oils are definitely NOT created equal. below i will go over the main reasons I chose young living. sure, some of you may think of this as boring, but to me personally its the kind of concrete info i needed to make my own decision.
first of all,
young living has been around for over 20 years and has a seed to seal guarantee (i'll include a link at the bottom that explains this). they are the only company in the world that owns their own farms to
grow their own crops with no chemical fertilizers or pesticides (they even use
essential oils for pest control). every other company buys their product
usually from third party growers in foreign countries where they give 2nd, 3rd,
and even 4th distillations whereas young living only gives 1st distillations so
their oils are WAY more potent and provide many more therapeutic benefits. young living tests their oils in their labs and also in 3rd party labs and they
reject 30% of all oils received for analysis.
something to keep in mind about oils that you see at retail stores such as whole foods and sprouts (or any other health food store) is that they are aroma-grade oils and while they do smell good, they do not offer the
same therapeutic benefits because most of them contain less than 5% pure
essential oil. yl oils are 100%
pure with nothing ever added, or taken away.
next,
many essential oils have
expiration dates, yl oils do not. properly stored 100% pure essential oils
(excluding citrus) won't ever go bad and will last indefinitely if properly
stored away from heat and sunlight. if an essential oil has an expiration date,
it isn't pure or has been cut with a carrier oil which will eventually go
rancid.
believe it or not, only 2% of essential oils sold in north america are suitable for
medicinal/therapeutic purposes, and young living makes 98% of them!
i saved the BEST FOR LAST: the apothecary society
this is an amazing secret facebook group for people
who use, or are curious about using yl oils. without the people in this group, i would be so completely lost with what to do with all of my little bottles! no sales pressure, just great information. let me know if you are interested in being added.
some people ask me how i got into the business side of things. well, i actually had zero intention of "selling" anything. i have my hands full enough with two small kids. after i got my kit and started learning about and falling in love with all of the oils, in my natural fashion i started posting all about them on my wall. well, that generated attention and people started asking me questions. if i didn't know the answer, i found it. then kit sales began. and now, i get my oils paid for every month with some extra on the side. it's not about the paycheck, i truly LOVE the feeling i get when someone comes to me super excited and shares their success stories. they never ever get old. helping people naturally is extremely rewarding.
i'll wrap it up by saying that if you or anyone you know is inquiring about essential oils, please don't hesitate to get in touch with me. i love talking about them, just ask jon. poor guy knows way more about eo's than he ever would have wanted :)
here's more detail about yl's seed to seal promise, a guarantee you won't find with anyone else.
